The Philosophy of Home

It has been said that Home is where the heart is. But as Christians where is our home?

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” -Matthew 5:19-21

Can we have a home now if our hearts are truly not attached to this world? If we believe that our hearts belong to Christ, then this world is truely not our home. It simply a place of residence. I have been thinking a lot about homes recently. When I speak about home I often confuse it with my place of residence. I live in North Carolina, however, I was born and raised in Lancaster County, Centerville to be specific. So I still feel that Lancaster is still my “home.” However, It seems that God has led me to North Carolina and now we have some decisions to make. One of the first is whether I Rent or Buy, buying seems to like the more financially responsible thing to do so I listed out my values in buying a house:

Gen 1:28 God blessed them: “Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge! Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air, for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth.”

Valentines Day

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
In visions and dreams the soul drinks deep,
my hopes will grow and heart will leap.
would i have pain in the disparity found
when my head leaves my feet firm on the ground?
The answer is yes and it’s happened before
it seems that i like to walk through that door.
how can one win with out giving ones heart,
but how can one give when things fall apart.
the question i ask is how can i care,
when love unrequited my friendships does tear.
this waxing poetic is action i ill afford
i must remember to trust in the Lord,
for my lack of trust is the root of this tree,
that holds my here planted and not walking free.
so as you journey through this single cursed day,
may God grant you peace as you walk in his way
